Tips for 3D Printed Cookie Cutters and Stamps!

April 6, 2022 by OurWrensNest Leave a Comment

Here are a few of our favorite tips!

When we aren’t busy with the farm, we are in the workshop creating fun 3D printed cookie cutters and stamps! A lot of our inspiration for the cookie cutters comes from our farm adventures. Here are some of our favorite tips for using 3D printed cookie cutters and stamps!

Start with a Good Recipe and Keep it Cold!

To get a good impression of your stamp into your cookie dough, you need to use a good rollout cookie recipe. There are many, many options out there for good recipes. The traditional Wilton Roll-Out Cookie recipe is a great start. The biggest tip is to make sure that whatever recipe you use, you chill the dough before cutting out your cookies! This will help you get the best detail possible on your cookies. We like to roll out our dough onto parchment paper, 1/4 thick, and place the rolled cookie dough onto a cookie sheet. Put your cookie dough into the fridge for 1-2 hours before cutting out your cookies.

Practice Pressure

When using a cookie stamp, it may take a press or two until you get the feel for your stamp. Depending on the cookie-cutter/stamp design you have, start by cutting the outline of your cookie shape. Next gently, and evenly press the cookie stamp halfway into your dough. Carefully remove the stamp and admire your design. You can even go back with your outline cutter, and trim the edge if you would like.

Sticky Dough?

If you find your dough is a little sticky – mix a little bit of flour and powdered sugar together in a bowl. Dip your cookie cutter into the mixture, and then push it into your dough. This helps with any sticking. Stamps do require a good coating to prevent sticking.

3D Printed Cookie Cutter and Stamp Care

Our cookie cutters are 3D printed with love using PLA.  PLA is an eco-friendly plant-based biodegradable renewable material. Please note PLA is sensitive to very high temperatures, and you will need to hand wash your cookie cutter with warm water. These are not dishwasher safe. Use a small brush to brush off any extra dough that may stick to the cookie cutter.  After cleaning, store in a plastic bag away from metal cutters and your cutters will last a long time!

Have Fun!
