Ditch the store granola, and make your own!
Jump to RecipeGranola, such a versatile food. It is so wonderful with yogurt for breakfast and great for a snack on the go. Granola on a good fruit crumble, so good! Recently we discovered some of favorite brands of granola we enjoyed now have added preservatives that we just don’t want to eat! We went on a mission to find a recipe to make our own granola, and it is so surprisingly easy to make!

Ingredients From the Pantry
A lot of the ingredients to make our Maple Brown Sugar Granola you can find in your pantry already. You will need 3 cups of rolled out (not instant oats). 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/3 cup coconut oil (or butter), 1/3 cup of good quality maple syrup, 3-4 teaspoons of vanilla, and 1 large egg with the white separated (use the yolk in another recipe).

The great thing about this recipe is that you can totally experiment with the additions. Don’t like maple syrup? Use honey in its place. Want to add some nuts, go for it! Maybe add some dried fruit, what ever you have on hand! This recipe is really a base for you to create your own special delicious granola!
After you have gathered all of your ingredients, set your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and place some parchment on a making sheet. Anyone else crumble up the parchment a little so it lays flat?

Mixing up your granola
Place the rolled oats, salt, sugar, and cinnamon into 1 bowl. In a sauce pan add your coconut oil (or butter), and maple syrup. Warm up on low heat until the coconut oil has completely melted. Remove your mixture from the heat, and add in your vanilla extract. While the mixture cools just for a few minutes, whisk your egg white with a wire whisk until it is foamy. This helps to create those fun clumps on granola. If you would like more clumps, you can add another egg white.

Mix together the coconut oil (or butter), vanilla and maple syrup mixture in with the dry ingredients. After that is thoroughly mixed, add in the whisked egg white, and mix thoroughly one more time. Pour your mixture onto the prepared sheet pan, and spread out in an even, thin layer.
Time for baking
Place your baking sheet into the oven, and bake for about 30 minutes. After 15 minutes you will want to give your granola a stir to ensure everything is browning nicely. You want to bake your granola until it’s golden brown and smells amazing! Depending on your oven you may need to adjust your cooking time, just keep an eye on your granola while it is baking.

After your granola is completely baked, take it out of the oven, and allow to cool completely. We like to gently slide the parchment onto a cooling rack, it helps with the cooling. You will notice as your granola cools, it will become harder, like true granola. When it first comes out of the oven, it will be more “soft”. It is hard not to touch, but wait until the granola is totally cooled off before enjoying!
Time to Enjoy!
When your granola is completely cooled, carefully break it up, making sure to leave those amazing clusters togethers. Store in an air tight container (mason jars are great) for up to 2 weeks away from heat, and moisture. This recipe is so good though, you will definitely go through it before then!

Hopefully we have given you the inspiration to make your own Maple Brown Sugar Granola. You won’t be disappointed! The taste and even smell is so great!
